To all in the SHS Class of '56 Family:    Our dear friend and one of the most faithful attendees of reunions, John Collins, died Monday, August 2, 2010, just as we are getting ready for Reunion54.  Remember his family in your prayers, and take time to send them your condolences and support.  And, now there are 93 of us. . . . . . . . . . . .                                                                   .

Hello classmates and friends of Sheffield High Class of '56!  Welcome to our website, a place where all you sons and daughters of the mid-Fifties can take a trip down a nostalgic "Memory Lane" where it took its twists and turns along the high bluffs on the south side of the mighty Tennessee River in the little town of Sheffield in northwest Alabama where we grew up.

You're at "Nostalgiaville"

We'll reminisce with you about the good times we had back then, share with you what has happened in our lives, entreat you to help improve this website by your contributions, and, most of all, remember the faculty and staff of SHS back then when we were young and full of enthusiasm and ambition.  High school was the time in our lives when we first got serious about making careers and leaving home, and our teachers were the persons who were most responsible (along with our parents) in helping guide us in the directions we took.

Mini-Reunion No. 54

The last of our interim mini-reunions before one of those biggies--the ones divisible by 5--is upon us.  To those of you who will meet, greet and eat at the 54th Reunion of the SHS Class of '56 this Saturday, I salute you and wish you a very merry time together.

John Collins' passing will cast a sobering shadow over the event, but I am sure he would be the first to urge you to remember him fondly, raise your glasses in a toast to the good times past and future, and make the occasion a happy one to look back on and smile.

Buck Locke has been working on a verse for the occasion.  His pieces are never finished--he pulls them out from time to time when the occasion calls for one, polishes it up, adds a little luster here and there and presents it to the ones he loves for their pleasure.  Here is the one in its near final version for you to enjoy on Saturday.

Note:  Buck updated this poem after I first posted it, so read it again!    --Ed.

GUYS & GALS!  This place is not finished yet!  That's because we are depending on you classmates who have some of the following to share them with us by sending them to our webmaster who will incorporate them into this website.

·              Snapshots and photographs from your high school days

·              The missing Hi-Lites

·              Other memorabilia from our high school years

·              Memories of your high school events and experiences

·              A tribute to your favorite or most influencing teacher

·              Memories of your reunion experiences

·              Updates on your life after high school
