51 years ago we graduated from high school on June 5, 1956
Up until June 2, 2006, this website was devoted almost totally to the goal of getting 100% of you to come to the reunion. This was our 50th year since graduation, so it was special.
We put many features on this site to entertain you, bring back warm memories, maybe tell you something you didn't know before and, most of all, excite you about the prospect of getting together again with your classmates. Between this and the hard work of Peggy King Bishop and her reunion planning committee, it seems to have succeeded. We celebrated our best reunion yet with an attendance of about 70%.
Now that the reunion is behind us, I thought that the website would no longer be needed, but numerous classmates at the reunion or by their e-mail correspondence have convinced me that we must keep this nostalgic site up and running. So, here it is for you to keep on enjoying.
Tell all your classmate acquaintances about this website. Respond to the requests for stories, snapshots and memorabilia that will enhance the fun to be experienced here. You will get about as much fun out of your visit here as you put into it. When you put your memories and tributes on the website it continues to get better. |
Class
of '56 Trust
Click here to go straight to a discussion of the Class of '56 Trust One of the two Class Projects under consideration involves donations of money to a segregated fund (The Class of '56 Trust) within the Sheffield Education Foundation. The interest from this trust will be used to fund projects that will benefit the teaching programs at SHS. The use of these funds will be limited to programs approved by the class. Solicitation of donations will begin this year, and this will be an ongoing drive to build a nest egg sufficient to do great things at SHS with the proceeds. |
Adult
Mentors
Click here to go stright to a discussion of Sheffield City Schools mentoring projects The other Class Project involves time donated by SHS alumni to participate in the mentoring project. This program has been operating for about 4 years, but it does not serve all the high school student candidates because there are few adult mentors. The program of high school students mentoring elementary and middle school students has been highly successful. We hope to generate volunteer support of Shoals area classmates and expand to include others in the community. |
