Student athletes are accorded VIP (Very Important Person) and BMOC (Big Man On Campus) status, and deservedly so.  They contribute greatly to the school spirit by their prowess against rival schools.

Academic top performers are also carrying the flag for the school.  The honors they garner and their achievements bring prestige and recognition to the school in important circles.  For example, real estate values are often linked to the academic ranking of a school, and major industries, in search of a location for a plant, will use "good school system" for employees' children as an important consideration.

The truth is, top performers in the classroom, in extracurricular activities and on the playing fields are all important for the reputation of a school.  All of these arenas of activity provide avenues for satisfying and successful experiences by every type of student.

On this page, we want to recognize the achievers in the intellectual arena for their contributions to the greatness of SHS.  Since the investigational resources of this webmaster are limited, we would appreciate your sending us reports (and photos) of any significant intellectual or academic achievement by an SHS student or teacher.  For students, this includes scholarships, awards, championship in science fairs, math bowls, debates, band or dance line competition, writing or poetry contests or any such non-sports related achievement.  For teachers this includes getting fellowships, achieving advanced degrees, grants for special projects or programs, receiving local, state or national awards, publishing scholarly papers or books and the like.

SO, EVERYBODY HELP!
