The Reunion Pictures - 1

Photos by Leslie Powell, Leslie Powell Photography

Leslie is a small, seemingly inauspicious man who is a friend and neighbor of classmate Patsy Bell Congleton.  He knows and is well-known by just about everybody in Tuscumbia.  Though not a commercial photographer, he is a trained and experienced practitioner of the art.  He's done many shoots of events like our reunion, and has received nothing but praise for his work.  He evokes and cajoles happiness by his friendly banter as he roams the event taking candid photos of small groups.  He documented all four of our major reunion events--the informal social at Jean Gardner Estes' home on Friday evening, the Reunion Breakfast at the Robert Trent Jones-Shoals golf course clubhouse, the Sock Hop at the high school, and the Reunion Banquet at Jim Holland's home Saturday evening.  Every photo he took was transferred to a CD which was sent to all the registered attendees along with one print of a group photo for a fee that was included with our registration--not a separate fee as in past reunions.

How about that!  You didn't even have to bring your camera, and you got 200+ images of the most memorable reunion ever to enjoy over and over.  We are posting a sample of these photos here for all you who didn't attend to drool and recriminate over.

FRIDAY EVENING

The Home of Ed and Jean Gardner Estes

Saturday evening at Jean Gardner Estes' backyard--all's ready!

The arriving ladies, like Barbara Bundy Occhipinti (and some gentlemen) were ferried from the parking pasture to the reception desk at this event by none other that hizzoner, the Mayor of Sheffield, Billy Don Anderson.

Arriving early on the front drive of Jean's home are Harrison and Eleanor Morrison Herron, Linda Methvin Smith and Nancy Snyder Stevens.

Charles Gargis (husband of Joann Marsh) and Joe Frazier checked out the vintage Chevrolet that Patsy arranged for the front entrance decor.  She had to promise the donor that she wouldn't let it rain on the impeccably restored finish.

Don Vann, Bette Anderson Pickin and Irelle Dunning Vann in front of the food pavilion (also known as "carport") with the increasing crowd of classmates in the background.

Even a serious injury in a "Swedish bikini team incident" couldn't keep Bob Proctor from making the 9½ hr., 550 mile trip from Beaufort to his hometown to be at the Golden Reunion.  That's his wife, Janelle, behind him NOT confirming the nature of his accident.

Sylvia Carter, Jim Holland and Capt. Floyd ("Winston" to us) Carter, U.S.N. (ret.).  I thought I held out a long time before attending reunions.  This was Winston's first reunion in 50 years!

Louis Buettner (back) introducing Ron Newborn and Jean Gardner Estes who reprised their performance of the skit presented by them at the first reunion of the Class of '56 back in 1974.  Note the RC Colas (on the table) and piles of Moon Pies (on the deck) ready for distribution to the website contest winners.

Look at that rapt attention.  They're hoping they will win an RC Cola and a Moon Pie, too!

The program was presented by the pool on a beautiful, cool June evening.  Note Mrs. Daniel, one of our teachers, who was our guest for the occasion.
