Classmate Tributes

Buck Locke:

I guess Billy Wix and I had more fights than anyone in the class.  Actually, Bobby Glover was party to a number of those brawls.  In the woods between 17th and 18th Ave. we would have a fight almost every afternoon after school.  The way I remember it is it was me against Billy and Bobby.  I looked forward to getting out of school from first to about the sixth grade for an afternoon of fun.  It was fun as we were too small to really do much damage.  Actually, my mom did get upset when I would come home with blood all over my clothes.

I have a dim memory of being at Billy’s on a rainy day on his front porch singing “Rain, rain go away, come again another day!”.  We also had fun playing games like monopoly and go fish.  Across the street from Bobby’s house there was a vacant lot where the abandoned Blake school is now.  We would play baseball or football in the lot.
