On the last weekend of March 2008, five members of the SHS Key Club attended the Alabama District Convention in Mobile with Troy and Betty Whisenant, who reported on their accomplishments.

These young men and women represented Sheffield, Sheffield High School and the Key Club in an exemplary manner:

Nicole Bohannon, International Trustee

John Carr, outgoing Lieutenant Governor of Division II

Trey Snelling, incoming Lieutenant Governor of Division II

Anne Catherine Machtolff

Autumn Tucker

There are 18 Divisions in the Alabama District.  Eleven schools comprise Division II, and Sheffield High School is one of the smallest schools with one of the very smallest Key Clubs in the Division.  Like the parent service club, Kiwanis, Key Clubs are required to maintain standardized records and to make required reports of performance, activities and service programs during the year for the purpose of competitive rankings in the Divisions and in the statewide District.

Sheffield High's Key Club walked away with 3 trophies, 1 banner patch, and one certificate--an outstanding accomplishment considering the fact that many schools received no awards at all.

SHS Key Club received the following awards:

First Place Trophy - Single Service Project

This is awarded for the planning, implementation and results of a single individual club project.  By winning this district award, the SHS Key Club service project, Family Game Nights at L. E. Willson Elementary School, will be the Alabama District entry in the Single Service Project competition at the Key Club International Convention in Denver, Colorado.

Second Place Trophy - J. H. White Achievement Award

This is awarded for training and overall service activities throughout the year.

Third Place Trophy - Fundraising per Member of the District Project, Children's Miracle Network

Certificate of Recognition as a Distinguished Club

Banner Patch for Service Projects and Financial Contributions to Children's Hospital

These representatives and the outstanding entire membership of the Sheffield High School Key Club who worked faithfully and hard to meet all the benchmarks for these high honors do, indeed, deserve congratulations for their wonderful year of service to others.

June 2008:

More good news about the Key Club of Sheffield High:

The Sheffield High School Key Club has received an invitation to set up a booth at the International Service Fair at Key Club International Convention in Denver , Colorado , in July. Only a limited number of booths are set up and it is by “invitation only.” This is a tremendous honor especially for a club the size of ours.

We have, of course, accepted the honor although we haven’t quite figured out how we’re going to get all of the “stuff” to and from Colorado !

Three of our SHS students will travel along with us to Colorado for the convention: Nicole Bohannon, Trey Snelling,  & Autumn Tucker.

Thanks for all you do to support Key Club!
