Does anybody out there have a March 1956 issue of the Hi-Lites? If so, please contact Louis.
At the 2007 Reunion, Joann Marsh Gargis just provided me the Christmas 1955 and Valentine's Day 1956 issues. ENJOY! |
![]() The Hi-Lites page in the Activities section of our Demitasse In this day and time when desktop publishing on a PC seems to have endless possibilities for slick design and printing, it seems so quaint that ten students would help our sponsor, Mrs. Kimbrough, produce a mimeographed student newspaper. The paper urged us to attend the athletic contests, gossiped about couples, presented religious topics, told us about the "In" clothing fashions, editorialized about student misbehavior, reported on the conventions, contests, and class trips we participated in and, in general, recorded the history of our high school youth. We seniors ran the paper during our final year at Sheffield High. Frances Crockett was our Editor-In-Chief, and she had a staff that included reporting and marketing. We had a sports editor, a features editor, alumni editor, exchange editor, club editor and news editor and each of them coordinated the efforts of numerous underclassmen reporters. A business manager, and technical support in the form of the art editor and pictures editor rounded out the staff. During our year of management, The Hi Lites was upgraded to a printed newspaper. You'll really enjoy perusing these issues that we have collected. No doubt, you will be amazed at how completely The Hi-Lites tell Our Story. TAKE A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE Here are the whole issues of Hi Lites that we have in our file. Just click on the ones you want to see. These are .pdf files with scanned images of the Hi Lites pages. You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader, and they are large files, so it may take a while for the download if you don't have a high speed Internet connection. BUT, IT'S WORTH THE WAIT!! Why not click on an issue and then go fix yourself a snack? If you don't have Acrobat Reader, you can get a free copy at the Adobe website: www.adobe.com.
