![]() Sandra's ringing the bell for volunteers
It takes a lot of work to make a project-oriented website interesting, fun and informative. If you can help us, we will all benefit. Please volunteer in one of the following ways:
TELL US ABOUT YOU Whatever happened to old "So-and-So?" That's one of the most frequently asked questions at reunions. Don't be a mere name in the annual; send in your account of what went on in your life after graduation--your further training, your military experiences, your career, your family, your hobbies, your accomplishments and the things you have done which make you proud. Don't forget, too: "a picture is worth a thousand words!" Send us photographs of you now and at high points along your life's journey. Candid photos are better than stiff portraits, but whatever you would like to share will be greatly appreciated. Click Here for instructions.
PHOTOGRAPHS FROM 'WAY BACK THEN Did you or your parents collect and keep good photos of day-to-day events or significant occasions during our years at SHS? Class group pictures, pictures of clubs engaged in their projects or activities, any shots taken in recognizable locations around school, photos of social occasions or school ceremonies are good subjects. If you possess some of these types of pictures, would you loan them to us so we can scan them into digital file form and use them on the website? If you do, we will take good care of them and return them to you promptly. Please provide information about each photo, including the occasion and the names of the people in the pic.
Mail them to Louis Buettner ( Click Here for instructions. )
DO YOU KNOW ANY OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS? We need to collect information about as many of our former teachers as is possible. If you are personally acquainted with any, please write a short biographical sketch of their career and accomplishments as a teacher, what they have done since SHS employment, where they are now, or, if deceased, when it happened and where they are buried. Photos would be good, too. E-mail them to Louis.
DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT OUR DECEASED CLASSMATES? It has been exceedingly hard to find the obituaries and later photographs of our classmates who have passed away. If you have a copy of the obituary of any of them or know where and when it was published, please let us know. Even if you don't have access to an obituary, but you did have contact with any of them after high school, you can contribute by writing a short tribute to them, telling us what they did and where they went. The tributes would be as nice or nicer than the obituaries. E-mail them to Louis.
DID YOU HAVE A HERO DURING HIGH SCHOOL? If you had a teacher (or member of the administrative staff) who meant a lot to you during your high school career, tell them (or us) about your experience. Write it down and send it to Louis for inclusion on the website. Mentors or really great teachers are a blessing to young, impressionable boys and girls (From our present vantage point, that's what we were back then!). Whether we were aware of their contribution or not, these model teachers may really have gotten us started in the right direction. E-mail them to Louis.
GOT A PENCHANT FOR HISTORY? Did you hoard stuff from your high school days: copies of Hi-Lites, minutes of club meetings, programs from school ceremonies (including graduation)? Would you be willing to write or outline a history of the things that have happened at SHS since our graduation. We want anybody who has any information that might be useful to put into a story about our alma mater to contribute. You don't have to write the whole history, just send us the bits and pieces that you think are important to know about SHS--either during our 4 years or since then.
Along these lines, we want to get class members to give us short vignettes of their remembrances of events or happenings during our 4 years that stand out prominently in their memory. They might be important events or ordinary events, but events that meant a lot to you classmates. Jot it down and send it to Louis.
CAN YOU BE AN ON-THE-SCENE REPORTER? A local Quad-Cities SHS alumnus/alumna who would gather information about the current goings-on at SHS is needed. More than one would be good, too. We are interested in publishing the current happenings at SHS on this website from a Class of '56 alumni point of view. We want to know about the academic champions as well as the athletic programs. Schedules for student bowls, science/math/literary fairs, interscholastic athletic events would make good subjects to report. We would like to post the results of these competitions to give credit to outstanding students, so you would be asked to keep up with the events and send them to Louis. Those of you with digital cameras would be especially important to us if you could get and send pictures along with the information about the events.
In addition to these scheduled programs, we would like to get current status reports about the physical facilities and special programs that support the curriculum at SHS (and photos to illustrate them). If you would be willing to do this, contact Louis .
WERE YOU IN CHARGE OF A REUNION? We will feature each reunion that has been held in a separate page on the website. Write up a brief story about the reunion and send it along with any photos that were taken at the event to Louis. You will get your photos back promptly. Click Here for instructions.
