Sheffield High School

1952 Student Handbook

Page 3.  Welcome from the President of the Student Council

The scan of the photocopy of the photocopy of the original Student Handbook is hard to read, so here's my retype of this short but meaningful message from Harold McNeese, President of the Student Council for the 1952-3 school year.

Welcome to Sheffield High!

It is with great pleasure that I welcome the ninth graders, new teachers and other newcomers to Sheffield High School.

This school's beautiful buildings were built with your comfort, safety and health in mind and will stay that way only if you are willing to help keep them so.  Sheffield's Band and athletic activities are widely known and praised, but depend on you for support.

There are important responsibilities which you are expected to carry but one's most important responsibility ties in with Sheffield's motto, Enter to learn; Leave to serve.  So, it is your responsibility here to learn and serve.

I hope you will love and treasure every moment spent here.

                          Harold McNeese

Did you read this back in September 1952?  Did you love and treasure every moment you were at SHS?  I had good times and pretty miserable times, but, on the whole, the good far outweighed the bad from this 49-year vantage point.

I hope you look back and treasure the time you had back then, too.
