Elvis
Presley burst upon our scene in Sheffield three times during our junior
and senior years (January, August and November, 1955) at SHS.
That was more appearances in one town than any other town he visited during his time with Sun Records--with the exception of Shreveport, where he had a contract to appear on the weekly Louisiana Hayride and Houston. In 1955, he made only five other appearances in Alabama, Mobile twice and once each in Montgomery, Prichard and the little burgs of Leachville and Jackson. Does anyone know where the heck Leachville is? Everybody who writes about Elvis says that all the guys hated him and the girls went crazy when he was on stage. Guys mellowed over time, and, now, most everybody looks back and says that he was the indisputable top entertainment star of our youth. Then, when we were no longer "youth," the Beatles came along. Elvis trails only them in all-time popularity--as measured by records/albums sold. This page contains some Elvis factoids, Elvis pop quizes, and links to some of the hundreds of thousands of Elvis websites. Girls: Send us an e-mail, and tell us why you went crazy at Elvis concerts. Guys: Tell us why you stopped hating him. If you drop us an e-mail describing your encounters with The King or your feelings about him, we will print excerpts from your e-mail at this site. Just click on a link listed on the left. |
