Did you realize how many of us were together for all or most of the grades in elementary school, junior high school and high school? Here are a few of the group photos of us at different ages from the First Grade to Seventh Grade. It's amazing how many of us are recognizable at each of these early years. See if you can identify the kids in these photos--It'll be a lot more fun and less work for me if you do the work and save me the typing of the legends! And, as a bonus, there's a contest (prizes: RC Cola and Moon Pie, as usual) for those of you who can name the teachers whose pictures are posted along side their class photos on this page. |

![]() Fourth Grade (I think--the photo was not labeled) This photo was used in the display at the 45th Reunion in 2001. I don't know who contributed it, nor am I sure that this is a picture of one of the 4th Grades, but it looks like the campus of the Atlanta Ave-Annapolis Ave. schools, and the kids look a bit younger than the next photo which, fortunately, has the Legend Board for the 5th Grade in the photo. Send me an e-mail with the details if you know about this photo and get the coveted prize for your contribution to the website.

![]() Another Fourth Grade Photo (I think) This is another of the photos used in the display quiz, "Name Your Classmates" that was prepared for the 45th Reunion at the Holiday Inn Reunion Banquet in 2001. Same offer--tell me when this was taken, what grade it is and who is the teacher. You'll get an RC Cola and a Moon Pie at the reunion for your efforts.

Mrs. Rhoades Ed. Note: I loved Mrs. Rhoads. The first day in her 4th Grade class, someone raised their hand when she told us to do something a certain way and, when recognized, said to her, "Mrs. Cantrell didn't have us do it that way." The way Mrs. Rhoads replied stuck with me forever, suppressing any urge I might have had to question the authority of anybody who was responsible for teaching me: "My dear, you're not in the Third Grade now!" |

![]() Fifth Grade, Atlanta Avenue Elementary School Now, this is the way they ought to take pictures of old, old times! We know that this is the 5th Grade, but I'm not sure of the school (the grounds look like the Atlanta Ave.-Annapolis Ave. complex) and I certainly don't remember the name of the teacher. Hellllllppppp!!!!

Another Fifth Grade Class This is a photo of Mrs. McWilliams 5th Grade at the same location (same steps on which the photo was taken). I see me on the first row--the first boy on the left.

Mrs. Ethel McWilliams Her son, Hogan, graduated a year after we did. She moved back home to Waynesboro, TN, in 1950, drove her own car 'til she was 90 and lived to be 92. A beautiful lady. Clay White, SHS '57

Sixth Grade at the Atlanta Avenue Elementary School campus One year later and the same setting for the photo. Either the class size is getting larger or the members of the class are getting larger--the rows are wider!

Another Sixth Grade Class at Atlanta Ave. Elementary Mary Ann Lenz just sent this photo of yet another of our 6th Grade classes. I think that's her on the front row at the right edge of the legend board.

Seventh Grade, Atlanta Avenue Elementary School Another year, same setting for the class photos! I know this one is Miss Varnell's class, because Barbara Laughlin South loaned it to me, and she had labeled her photo. She even put the legend with all the students on the back.

Another Seventh Grade class at the Atlanta Avenue Elementary School Everybody is getting easier to recognize. If anybody knows what happened to those who didn't graduate with us, please share your information. Send an e-mail to Louis.

This wasn't the teacher, she was one of us! Peggy Wynne Taylor says it's Willie Jean Reeves. Now I'm guessing our teacher is not standing with us. Imagine that. . . teacherless in the 7th Grade. |
A third Seventh Grade class at the Atlanta Avenue Elementary School Isn't the last boy on the right end of the first row Bobby Rudesill? Peggy Wynne, who's standing right next to him, says it is and that she thinks he became a fairly high-ranking officer in the Army. I don't recognize the boy who is the fourth kid from the left on the first row or the girl who is on the right end of the second row, next to Joyce Coburn. There are a few others who seem familiar but were not with us at graduation. Anybody know any of these? |

Some lucky classmates owned cameras even before high school and used them to record us before high school: |
