and John RogersHow enthusiastic were we for sports at Sheffield High? How high is the sky?
V-E-R-R-R-R-Y ! ! !
In freshman orientation, we got student handbooks which, in addition to setting the rules and introducing teachers and programs, gave us the ammunition we were expected to use when the dreaded opposition teams appeared in the same stadium, gym, baseball field or track with Our Guys.
We sat in the stands together and yelled together and really thought that our energy could be transferred to our teams out on the field or court. I've been to some of the games at my kids' and grandkids' schools, and there are strange happenings ranging from indifference to grandstand coaching. Not in our day!
